Sports, as in newspapers around the globe, occupied a prominent role in the Press Herald and Evening Express papers. The Portland Press Herald Glass Plate Collection contains many examples of sports photography, from high school sports to photographs of famous athletes. Coverage of different types of sports was all encompassing, and includes photos of boxing, baseball, football, golf, horseshoes, swimming, basketball.
